You can pressure wash year-round in Kentuckiana, but timing the job right gets you better results, faster scheduling and longer-lasting cleanliness. Here's when each season makes sense — and what to book when.
The quick answer
Spring and fall are the best seasons for most Louisville homeowners to schedule exterior cleaning. Spring removes winter grime and sets up your home for outdoor season. Fall strips summer's mildew before it hardens through winter. Both shoulder seasons also tend to have more scheduling availability than peak summer demand.
Spring (March – May): the annual reset
Spring is our busiest season, and for good reason. Louisville winters leave a film of road salt, exhaust residue, and organic matter on every home exterior. As soon as temperatures stay consistently above 45°F, soft washing is effective — and the sooner you clean after winter, the sooner you stop the mold and mildew that starts growing the moment temperatures warm up.
Spring cleaning also makes sense from a timing perspective: you're about to open up the deck and patio for outdoor entertaining, the landscaping is budding back out, and you want the house to look its best for the season. A spring wash sets the visual tone for the year.
The downside of spring: demand is high. If you want a specific date in April or May, book 2–3 weeks ahead. The best spring slots fill quickly, especially after the first warm weekends.
Summer (June – August): high demand, great results
Summer cleaning makes sense if you have a specific event coming up — graduation party, family reunion, Fourth of July, wedding photos at the house — or if your home has visibly accumulated mildew since spring. The warm temperatures and dry weather windows make for good cleaning conditions.
The challenge with summer is scheduling. June through August is our highest-demand period and booking windows extend. If you want a summer cleaning, plan 2–3 weeks ahead minimum. Same-week availability is rare from late May through Labor Day.
Heat also affects the cleaning process slightly — very hot sunny days cause cleaning solutions to dry faster than optimal, so we schedule summer jobs to start early in the morning when possible.
Fall (September – November): the smart move
Fall is genuinely our favorite time to clean, and we recommend it to any homeowner who asks. Here's why:
- Summer mildew removal: Louisville summers are prime growing season for algae and mildew. A fall cleaning strips that summer growth before it gets baked in through the freezing and thawing cycles of winter — which can actually harden organic staining and make spring cleaning more difficult.
- Better scheduling availability: After Labor Day, booking windows open up dramatically. You can often get a same-week appointment in September or October that would have been a 2–3 week wait in July.
- Ideal temperatures: Cooler temperatures (50–70°F) actually improve cleaning solution performance. The detergent dwells longer before drying, giving it more contact time to kill biological growth.
- Pre-winter preparation: Heading into winter with a clean exterior means any biological growth that returns in spring has to start from scratch rather than resuming from an already-established colony.
Winter (December – February): when it makes sense
Soft washing works year-round in Louisville as long as temperatures stay above 35°F. Below that threshold, the cleaning solution loses effectiveness and there's risk of the rinse water freezing on surfaces or in gutters.
Winter cleaning makes good sense for:
- Commercial properties on a maintenance schedule regardless of season
- Vacant homes going on the market — spring listings benefit from a pre-listing clean done in February or early March
- Post-construction cleanups on newly built or renovated homes
- Any homeowner who wants availability and lower demand — winter is our most open booking period
What about the weather on the day of service?
Soft washing requires a dry window — rain during or immediately after the cleaning washes the solution away before it has full dwell time. We monitor the forecast closely and will reschedule if rain is expected within 4–6 hours of your service. In Kentuckiana's unpredictable weather, this occasionally means rescheduling within the same week — we'll always communicate proactively when that happens.
Booking recommendations by situation
- Spring cleaning (April–May): Book in March to get your preferred date
- Pre-event cleaning: Book 2–3 weeks ahead of the date you need the house done
- Pre-listing (real estate): Schedule 3–5 days before photography
- Fall maintenance: Any time in September–October, usually same or next week availability
- Commercial recurring: We'll set a standing schedule that works around your operation

Coordinating with Louisville's seasonal calendar
Louisville's weather has some distinct seasonal patterns that matter for exterior cleaning planning. Understanding them helps you pick the right window for your specific needs:
Spring (March–May): Louisville typically gets significant rainfall in March and April before drying somewhat in May. For cleaning purposes, April and May are the sweet spot — temperatures are consistently above 45°F (required for effective soft-wash chemistry), rainfall has tapered, and you have dry windows available. The issue is demand: May is our highest-volume month, so book early.
Summer (June–August): Generally dry enough for cleaning, but heat creates challenges. Very hot afternoons (90°F+) cause cleaning solution to dry faster than optimal on sun-exposed south and west faces. Morning appointments are preferred in midsummer. Summer also brings the highest demand, so scheduling lead times extend significantly.
Fall (September–November): Our preferred season for most residential work. September and October combine ideal temperatures (50–70°F), good scheduling availability, and the best cleaning performance. October is genuinely our most efficient month — the chemistry performs well in cool, slightly humid conditions, leaves are still mostly on the trees so debris is minimal, and we can often schedule same-week or next-week appointments.
Winter (December–February): Works well in mild stretches. Louisville winters often have extended periods of 40–55°F weather between cold snaps — these windows are perfectly suitable for soft washing. We stay busy through winter with commercial clients and pre-listing residential work.
The freeze risk: what actually matters
One concern about winter cleaning that's worth addressing directly: freezing. The question isn't whether it's cold, it's whether temperatures will drop below 32°F during or within a few hours after the cleaning. Here's why:
Soft washing involves applying solution, allowing it to dwell, and rinsing. The rinse water needs to drain away before freezing. On a 38°F day that stays above freezing, this is a non-issue — water drains off siding, concrete and wood normally and dries within hours. On a day that starts at 40°F and drops to 28°F that evening, residual water in gutters, downspouts, and the low spots of a driveway can freeze.
We monitor forecasts closely for winter jobs and won't schedule when a freeze is expected within 6 hours of completion. In practice, this means some January days are perfectly workable and some are not. We'll be transparent about conditions when you call.
Planning around Louisville events and seasons
Some Louisville-specific events that drive exterior cleaning requests:
- Derby season (late April–early May): Louisville homeowners hosting Derby parties want their homes at their best. Book in March or early April for Derby-season cleaning — availability tightens fast.
- Spring selling season: The Louisville real estate market heats up from March through June. Pre-listing cleanings need to be scheduled to align with photography dates. We're experienced at working quickly around real estate timelines.
- Holiday gatherings: Thanksgiving and Christmas family visits prompt fall and early winter cleaning requests. October and November work perfectly for pre-holiday cleaning.
- Post-winter inspection season: Many Louisville homeowners schedule their HOA or insurance-required property inspections in March and April. A cleaning before the inspector comes solves any curb-appeal issues in advance.
What to do while you wait for your appointment
If you've noticed visible mildew or algae and your cleaning is a week or two out, there's no need to do anything in the meantime. The cleaning will address whatever is there. Don't attempt to treat it yourself with store-bought bleach solutions — improperly diluted products can damage siding and create uneven results that are harder to clean uniformly when we arrive.
The one prep step that genuinely helps: if you have items close to the home's exterior — decorative pots, outdoor furniture, kids' toys — moving them back a few feet before the appointment saves time and ensures we can clean all the way to the foundation without working around obstacles.
The bottom line on timing
Spring and fall are the best windows for most Louisville homeowners — spring for the annual reset, fall for the best combination of performance, pricing, and availability. Summer works but requires more lead time for scheduling. Winter works in mild stretches and is underutilized. The single most important timing rule: don't wait until the exterior looks badly neglected to schedule. Regular cleaning on a predictable calendar always produces better results than reactive cleaning after years of buildup.
